AngelShare is back!

Sorry we have been away for so long! It has been an exceptionally busy time for us with a new baby entering the family and AngelShare has been somewhat on standby mode as a result! Our website is now completely up-to-date and all the products displayed are available for purchase here.

We have also reinvested all of our Kiva loans, contributing to a wide range of people and businesses across 12 different developing countries including Mozambique, Haiti, Kenya, Burkina Faso and the Philippines. You can see the difference all our loans are making by visiting our Kiva loans page.

Over the coming months we will be letting you know on this blog how all of the people we have leant money to are getting along. In September we are hoping to go into top gear and become really active again in the run up to Christmas with the Angel’s Share of 5% of all our takings being invested in our microfinance loans through Kiva.

Please do share our social media pages and let us know if you have any feedback. Thanks for all your help – it really does mean so much to us!

Beer Bread Baking Tips

One of our favourite products on the site is the amazing Barrett’s Ridge Beer Bread – a unique gift idea that is perfect for any member of the family! Check out our product range here.

We hope you enjoy baking your beer bread! Here’s a few things we’ve tried to give you a bit of guidance and inspiration!

Beer Bread

Knead thoroughly
Add an extra couple of minutes to your kneading time to ensure a smooth yet firm mixture.

Don’t forget cider!
The name of the product might be ‘Beer Bread’, but don’t let that fool you! Cider really does make for a great bread, it adds that bit of sweetness and crisp flavour.

The fizzier the better
Use a relatively fizzy beer or cider; the bubbles help to make the bread fluffier. More expensive does not always mean better tasting!

Like a stronger flavour?
Add in a bit more seasoning if you prefer a stronger flavour. Try some assorted organic seeds and grains to further enhance your creation!

Butter it up!
Midway through baking, spread some butter or margarine over the crust of the bread. Be generous in the amount of butter you put on – we have to say the crustier the better!

Experiment with tins and dishes
You don’t have to always use a loaf tin, you can use pretty much any form of oven-ready kitchenware to put your beer bread into.

Let it stand
Be patient! Let the loaf cool for a couple of hours before eating!

What have you baked with your beer bread?

Kiva Profile – Hilary

We’ve invested more money in people who need it the most, so it’s time you met who we’re supporting! First up, it’s Hilary.
Hilary lives in Kawangware, an impoverished neighborhood in Nairobi, Kenya. He is a good example of the kind of young people who have shunned a life of crime and drugs to become enterprising members of society. Not only that, he is helping the planet too. He sells low cost and energy efficient stoves in his community and is able to earn a steady income. He has applied for a loan to manufacture more of his stoves to then sell on.

Hilary KIVA

When we saw his profile, we all unanimously said “That’s the one!”. Hilary perfectly encompasses what AngelShare is all about – providing a truly global benefit through business. His stoves are an absolutely fantastic idea, and increasing the availability of these will only create positivity. We’d love to see these become very popular!

We’re doing all we can to help those who are less fortunate – are you?

Our Work With KIVA

When AngelShare was founded, we knew that we wanted to make a real difference in the world through business. That’s why we invest 5% of every sale price into loan funds in developing countries to help those who need it most, and lend a helping hand to ultimately have them become self-sustainable.

Kiva is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Utilising the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals or teams lend money to help create opportunity around the world. Learn more about how it works.

Since Kiva was founded in 2005:

  • 1,231,061 Kiva lenders
  • $630,728,325in loans
  • 98.81% repayment rate

We work with:

  • 285 Field Partners
  • 450 volunteers around the world
  • 79 different countries

100% of every lending amount on Kiva goes directly towards funding loans; Kiva does not take a cut. Furthermore, Kiva does not charge interest to its Field Partners, who administer the loans. Kiva is primarily funded through the support of lenders making optional donations. They also raise funds through grants, corporate sponsors, and foundations.

Our Progress So Far

We have made 35 loans to date, across many countries and continents. These include:

We have invested in entrepreneurs all over the world: Armenia, Burundi, Dominican Republic, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Peru, Philippines, Samoa, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Vietnam and more.
So far, all of our loans have been paid back or are on course to be fully repaid.
